Protect your business from scams
As a service to our customers, we want you to know that there’s been a rise in scam attempts against businesses within our service area.
We’ve become aware that scammers are impersonating PPL by copying our phone number, calling customers, and demanding payments with prepaid cards. If customers don’t comply with the request, the scammers threaten to shut off their electricity.
If you receive a call like this, hang up and check the status of your account by visiting pplelectric.com or calling us directly at 1-800-DIAL-PPL (1-800-342-5775). We never demand immediate payments and always provide advanced notice to customers in jeopardy of having their electricity shut off.
Follow these tips to protect your business from scammers.
• Understand PPL’s process. We’ll notify you when there’s a scheduled shutoff and won’t pressure you to use specific payment methods. We treat our customers with respect and would never use threatening or abusive language to demand payment.
• Don’t trust caller ID. Scammers can make it look like PPL is calling you, even when we’re not. If the call seems suspicious, hang up and call us directly at 1-800-DIAL-PPL (1-800-342-5775).
• Add an extra layer of security to your account. Add a PIN or password to your PPL account and never give it to anyone who calls you. We’ll verify your PIN or password whenever you contact us, so we know it’s really you.
• Update your email address and phone number. Let us know if your email address or phone number changes so you don’t miss important messages, like this one.
We’re always happy to look out for our customers. If you have questions or think you may have been tricked or scammed, call us at 1-800-342-5775.
